You'll find local brews in restaurants, casually stocked in grocery stores and at entertainment venues like Hadlock Field, home of the beloved Portland Sea Dogs (the city's minor league baseball team).įor art lovers, visiting the greats at the Portland Museum of Art, touring the grand interiors of the Victoria Mansion, or a self-guided tour of galleries during a First Friday Art Walk are must-dos. Portland is said to have one of the highest rates of microbreweries per capita. You'll find plenty of award-winning seafood and lobster rolls, as well as an ever-expanding range of flavors at farm-to-table and family-owned restaurants. A stroll through Portland's waterfront Old Port district introduces the city's rich history, not to mention its outstanding foodie scene. But in the following years, Mainers and architects and builders from nearby cities like Boston came together to rebuild using the less-flammible brick and granite that is a signature of Portland today. A large part of it burned down in the Great Fire of 1866.
